Over Explanation – FF024

It is important to remember your readers have brains and can figure things out for themselves. I’m talking about over-explaining things because you want to make sure the reader knows what’s going on in your story.

I will show four different ways authors over explain their writing to the readers.

• Example 1: Telling the readers what the character is feeling when what the character said gives the reader what they need to know.
• Example 2: insulting the reader’s intelligence because they will have already figured out what happened in by themselves based on the clues given them.
• Example 3: Overusing step-by-step descriptions.
• Example 4: How tightening your writing keeps the story flowing better.
